We design, manufacture and supply sports solutions that are safe for the athletes who use them daily each day, and the structures and environment where they are installed. Our commitment starts with how we design our products, and it continues in how we select our raw materials, choose the energy sources that power our plants, all the way through to how our flooring is disposed of or recycled.
Ecofill® Rebound performance infill, made of quality thermoplastic granules produced from virgin raw materials, is a perfect example: Developed by MONDO R&D in 2001 and further optimized to offer an eco-compatible alternative to conventional infill (which is made of recycled SBR), it does not contain heavy metals and potentially toxic chemical substances.
Our tracks, which are designed to comply with biomechanical criteria and made to meet strict worldwide environmental standards, are another good example.
The sustainability of MONDO sports solutions begins in our factories. We select and check all of our raw materials, which include 38% recycled, contaminant-free material, such as Nike Grind vulcanized rubber granules, made from the soles of pre-consumer Nike running shoes, and 10% materials from rapidly renewable sources, such as rubber.
We monitor every stage of our production, which takes place in certified factories like the one in Gallo d’Alba, which is certified to the ISO 9001:2015 quality management and ISO 14001:2015 environmental management standards, and is powered by a 4.6 MWp photovoltaic system that reduces CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 2,000 tons per year.
Once they have completed their life cycle, MONDO surfaces can be disposed of as non-hazardous urban waste, since they are classified under European Waste Catalogue (EWC) Code 170203.
Air pollution can have a negative effect on athletes’ performance and put their health at risk. This not only applies to indoor venues, but especially to outdoor ones, where sunlight and heat can increase the materials’ emissions.
During training and competition, athletes breathe 20 times more than they would normally. This means that they are 20 times more exposed to pollution risks.
That is why MONDO has been striving for years to achieve low VOC emissions and have that confirmed by independent external laboratories, such as UL Environment, which has given our surfaces GREENGUARD GOLD certification, or by accredited laboratories, which have awarded them class A+ according to the French Decree.
